Pasir Ris Newtown is a Newtown situated in the eastern region of Singapore. It is built by HDB, it is primarily a residential area which has high-rise buildings and most of them are public housings built by Housing Development Board. Back in 1950s Pasir Ris was a popular beach resort with wide range of hotels and beach fronts which were idle picnic spot at that time.
The word Pasir Ris means ‘white sand’ in Malaya and the word Pasir Ris was used to describe the sandy beaches found in the area, being located near to the sea it has popular resorts like NTUC Downtown east, Aranda country club and Aloha Loyang resort. This Newtown is undoubtedly a recreational hub which offers endless fun and entertainment to the families coming here. Pasir Ris is having an area of 6.10 sq km and out of which its residential area is 3.18 sq km, it has a population of over 96,800 peoples. Pasir Ris is bounded by the Serangoon Harbour to the north, Tampines New Town to the south, Changi to the east and Sungei Serangoon on the west.

Pasir Ris Newtown has a good transport facility it has easy accessibility to various parts and nearest expressways of the town. Pasir Ris MRT is located at the Pasir Ris central. There are plans for the new Rapid Transit Lines to complement the present East-West MRT line and by this it would help to provide better accessibility between eastern and central regions.

Pasir Panjang is an area in the South-Western Singapore which is located at the southern part of Queenstown planning area; it is an urban planning zone under Urban Redevelopment Authority Singapore. The area is facilitated with port and is quite and sleepy as most of its commercial activities take place in the port. Pasir Panjang is also home for National University of Singapore (NUS).
Pasir Panjang in Malay is termed as ‘long sand’. A major road Pasir Panjang road run through the city and was built in and was opened by John Turnbull Thomson governor of Singapore at that time. During the early day at the time of colonial rule Pasir Panjang was a fishing village and had opium factories. Pasir Panjang is popularly known in the history of Singapore because it had witnessed fierce battles such as ‘Battle of Pasir Panjang’ which was fought between Japanese and British Empire.
Pasir Panjang has lots of private housing in it when compared to HDB housing estates. Private housing includes executive condominiums to landed property. The condominiums of Pasir Panjang are of low rise and old which are home for expatriates which work in the nearby offices and institutes and these condominiums named as The Village, Vista Park Condominium and The Longhouse. There are also new high-rise condominiums which are by the sea side and face the island of Sentosa and these are named as The Caribbean condominiums.
HDB estates are found in the outskirts of Pasir Panjang and they are named as Bukit Permai, Alexandra Road and Clementi.

Pasir Panjang is mostly involved in port business as it is one of the major port cities of Singapore, there are many car marts in Pasir Panjang which sell brand new cars and some of the marts sell second hand cars also.

There are two major shopping centers in Pasir Panjang and they are Harbor front Center and the Vivo City.
Harbor Front Center is also known as old World Trade Center is a complex with many offices and a ferry terminal. It has number of retail outlets and restaurants. From the ferry terminal one can Batam and some of the Indonesian islands.

Vivo city is largest shopping center in Singapore and is under service since 2006 besides from retail outlets and variety restaurant it has an amphitheatre and a wedding pool. It is also famous because it has Singapore’s largest Cineplex which has 15 screens under one roof.
Some of the landmarks of Pasir Panjang which are tourist’s attraction are Labrador Park, Reflections At Bukit Chandu, Kent Ridge Park and Haw Par Villa.

There are many bus services which circulate through Pasir Panjang and that are Trunk Service, Feeder Service, SSB Transit and SMRT Service.

Marine Parade was the first housing estate to be built on the reclaimed land and was completed in 1970, located adjacent to the East Coast Park many of its housing flats have beautiful view of the sea coast and this is the main reason for the housing units of Marine Parade to be in high demand by the home owner. Marine Parade is a town and an urban planning area in Singapore which is located directly to the east of Central are and is Singapore’s central business district.
Marine Parade housing estate has nearly about 58 blocks of HDB flats, the public estate is divided by the Still Road South which provides easy access to the major highway, the East Coast Park way which leads towards the city area and the Changi Airport. Marine Parade HDB flats and its private residences are bounded by Marine Parade Road, East Coast Road, Bedok South Avenue 1 and the Amber Road. The Marine Parade Planning area is an Urbana Planning Zone which comes under Urban Redevelopment Authority of Singapore and has a large area in which there is Marine Parade Housing Estate and the Private Housing on the both sides of Mount Batten road.

Marine Parade community building which was completed in 1999, it has Marine Parade community club and the Marine Parade library, the other facilities in the community hall are the 263-seater theater, a covered basketball courts on the roof top, glass walled gymnasium, café and air-conditioned sports hall.
Marine Parade is well known for its locals as it is adjacent to the East Coast Park which is popular seaside and has plenty of water sports and leisure facilities.
Though there is now MRT station in Marine Parade but is within short distance from the Eunos MRT and the Paya Lebar MRT and is well connected to the East Coast Park Way it is merely 15-20 minutes drive from the city.

Kallang is a subdivision and an urban planning area located in the southeastern part of Singapore. It is well known for its Singapore Indoor Stadium, Old National Stadium and the new Singapore sporting Hub. Singapore’s first ever airport was opened here in 1937 and shifted thereafter to another location due to increased air traffic demand, the airport terminal now is being occupied by People’s Association’s Headquarters.

Kallang according to Malay is the reference to ‘orang laut’ (sea gypsies), who lived in the side of Kallang river and Singapore river. The other meanings for Kallang in Malay is that the word Keylang means ‘mill or factory’ there were mills and factories here.

Kallang is often called as Kallang basin as it is drained by Kallang, Geylang, Rocher and Whompa rivers and by canal Pelton.

The housing estate of Kallang is built by Housing Development Board and were built in 1970 to 1980, some of the blocks of HDB are been reconstructed under the Selective En bloc Redevelopment Scheme (SERS) which is done to redevelop the area. The new block built in this scheme are about 30-storeys high which are the major skyscraper of the town and HDB is planning to build more this type of block here. The low raise blocks in the area of old airport they were demolished by HDB to redevelop them. There are two small Housing Board (HDB) estates with 20 blocks in each of them and these both estates overlook the Kallang basin.
Kallang is also home for small industries like pipe making, garments industry etc. many of the large scale industries have been relocated from Kallang so as to improve it for residential purpose.

Kallang has a good sporting background it is well known for its Singapore National Stadium it is one of the most oldest stadium of Singapore know it has been demolished and replaced by Singapore Sports Hub which will be ready by 2011. The other famous sporting center of Singapore is the Kallang Cricket Ground which has been host for several One Day internationals.
Kallang has Singapore’s biggest ice-skating rink which is popularly known as Kallang Ice World, it is in the area of 975.5 sq m.
